HealthConnect South Australia

HealthConnect is one of the Australian Government's e-Health initiatives. It is not a software application but rather a change management strategy to transition from the paper-based recording, storing and sharing of clinical information to electronic means.

HealthConnect is coordinated nationally by the Australian Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) and is supported by the National e-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA), who is responsible for developing national health information management systems and information and communication technology standards and specifications.

The HealthConnect SA program is funded by the Australian Government and is being delivered through the South Australian Department of Health. The HealthConnect SA program office was established in June 2005.

HealthConnect SA is currently working on three major e-Health initiatives:

• the e-Health Care Planning System (formerly the South Australian Care Planning System)
• the Secure Electronic Messaging Project
• and the roll-out of Secure Broadband Grants to South Australian health providers.
